I was born in Caterham in Surrey on March 18th 1964 and named Guy Williams. Had a normal childhood and went to St Johns Prep school in Chaldon and then went on to St Thomas Moore School in Purley. I am a Crystal Palace supporter and when to Selhurst Park every home game during the late 70's even managed all the away games one season. Use to go up there with Noel Harlin, John, Lecky and Ant, all of whom I went to School with. Use to have some good laughs at away games especially when we played Brighton and caused mayhem. I haven’t got a clue why I joined the Royal Marines, all I can think of is the Display Team turning up and a Wessex Helicopter with loads of Green smoke and blank rounds going off. I didn’t even know they were Royal Marines. Anyway somehow I ended up at the Croydon Naval Recruiting Office and that was it.
Left School in 1980 and joined up in July that year and joined 264 Troop along with Danny Daneils, Smudge Smith, Billy Boam and Spider Web to name but a few of the 60 that joined. Half way through we got down to about 20 and moved to Oakhamton where we were joined by 264 Troop who marked time for two weeks as they were so good...

In that Troop were Larry Lines, Al Hendrickson, Ronnie Gorrie, Al Inglis, Fin Farthing and then the fun started with raiding another troop and nicking their Yank flag as they had a Gunnery Sgt as their Tp Sgt. Trg was hard as we were all just 16/17 with some shit instructors and some very good ones. The bad ones gopping off about how hard we will find it in Norway only to find out the knobs had never been....We finally passed out in March 1981 and most of us were told we were going to 42 Cdo RM. Which was about right as we nearly all put in for 41 Cdo RM, not that they had long left but we didn’t know that then.
